Today I remembered why I love snowboarding! The giddy feeling of silently throwing snow with each turn...so amazing. The rain we had on the drive yesterday meant snow on the mountain. Just a few inches, but it was enough to make a big difference in the conditioins. So Courmeyeur has been our favorite so far, but the conditions have also been the best.
We started the morning with a short walk through the Italian village to the gondola. The gondola, then tram, took us to the top. The views were unreal. Best views of any ski area I've been to. We also saw a number of helicopters taking people on guided ski tours. Craziness.
We ended the day by taking a run back down to the town. The run was so much like our drive yesterday (narrow, curvy, along rock faces) and we continued the "run" through a semi-snowy field to get to our hotel :)
Our drive today was the easiest yet (other than the short portion on the teeny Italian roads...see photo below). We basically went back through the 7mi tunnel that connects Courmeyeur, Italy to Chamonix, France. Easy. We spent the afternoon and evening wandering around Chamonix. We hung out at the Chamonix microbrewery and Jekyl & Hyde. The second place was packed with people watching a game of rugby...pretty entertaining to people watch and to try to figure out the crazy sport!
Tomorrow we'll ride Cham. Here are some photos from today:
